Body found in American Fork Canyon area where hiker disappeared Sunday
Search crews have discovered a man’s body in the same area of American Fork Canyon where a hiker disappeared Sunday.
Robert “Bobby” Healey, 28, of Saratoga Springs, an avid hiker, was last seen Sunday around noon, according to the Utah County Sheriff’s Office, and his car was still at the mouth of the canyon Monday.
Authorities could not confirm whether or not the body was that of Healey.
“It may sound odd to not be able to confirm that it’s him, but the area where his car was found, the area where the phone has pinged for most of the last 24 hours is the area we’ve been searching,” said a searcher, . “So, it’s congruent with all the other information we have in the location that this body has been found.”
Search crews discovered the body around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in an “extremely rugged” area.
Crews are using a helicopter to bring the body off the mountain. The body will then be taken to the Utah State Office of the Medical Examiner for positive identification and to determine the cause of death.
